Wes Davis - Starr Tincup Marketing

MEET

WES DAVIS

How do you contribute to Starr Tincup excellence?

I try to be creative, funny and business savvy. OK! OK! I'm the corporate ping-pong punching bag.

What were you doing before you came to work at ST?

Looking for the perfect, post-MBA job and a whole lot of nothing.

Why do you like working at ST?

It's a fast-paced environment with a team of really savvy people that have fun while they work. If I didn't work here, I'd want to hang out anyway.

Who would win in a fight William or Bret?

The rest of the office for getting a front row seat to this one. I have a feeling it would be like Peter Griffin battling the Chicken: never ending.

If ST were a reality show which one would it be?

I have a feeling "Cops" isn't a bad choice.

What's the most unusual thing you have ever tossed off the fire escape?

Nothing yet but I'm positive my dignity and self-respect are going with whatever it ends up being.

Where did you grow up?

On the mean streets of Preston Hollow, sucka. (North Dallas)

What's your favorite all-time pet?

Toss up between both of the dogs I grew up with: Benjamin and Winston. Winston's a good boy. Yes, he is! Who's a good boy? Winston!

What is your most heart-wrenching / best breakup?

Look at Lindsay Lohan now. Yeah, she's still miserable about it.

What song changed your life?

I think the first time I saw Stevie Ray Vaughn on Austin City Limits I knew I would never be anywhere near as good as he was at guitar, but I knew I wanted to play. The band thing never worked out but I'm glad I had such a great motivator.

What is your favorite movie and why?

I rotate: Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut, Fletch, LOST (It's a movie, come on), Idiocracy, Office Space, Mallrats... It goes on.

What's your life philosophy?

I just try to be nice to people and make them laugh. If that doesn't work I just talk louder.

Who is your role model?

My parents fill that role very well. It's cheesy, but they've been awesome.

What is the stupidest thing you did in school?

I didn't do it. Nobody saw me do it. You can’t prove anything.

What is your favorite marketing cliche?

"Think outside the box!" Well what if your audience lives in the box? Then it's entirely appropriate to think inside the proverbial box. What the hell is this box and who determines what lies inside it? I mean, who are these people? And while we’re here, what’s the deal with airline food?

Tell us your best celebrity encounter story

In 2003 I went to the Improv in Houston to catch Pablo Francisco doing some stand-up. Before the show I chatted up the bouncer and let him know I was a huge fan. In the middle of the opener, the bouncer slaps me on the shoulder and said I had to come with him. I thought I was in huge trouble for something but he took me to Pablo's table. We talked and he bought my table's drinks/food for the night and signed CD's for all of us. He even used 3 of my jokes on stage.

Fill in the blank... If I were a ____ I would _____.

If I were a dog I would sleep a lot more.
