Our Internship Program

The Starr Tincup Internship: It’s Not a Job. You Get Paid for Jobs.

Jobs | Careers

The marketing intern position has very few similarities to a traditional internship. You will not be getting coffee. You will not be relegated to a hidden cubicle in a dark corner, with nothing to do but check your fantasy football team stats / surf MySpace (depending on your gender).

See any of the actual jobs and take it down by about 25 percent. You'll be doing that … and occasionally getting coffee—DAMMIT, did we already say you wouldn't be doing that?!?!?! Screw it—you better make a sweet caramel macchiato.

You'll need thick skin and the ability to be told, “That sucks. Do it again!” 15 times a day without breaking down in tears. Seriously, we can't take it when people cry. We understand it's a perfectly normal human response to any number of situations, we've just been emotionally dead for so long it reminds us of what it was once like … before she entered our lives ….

If you aren't qualified for this position, you aren't qualified for much outside of the drive-thru at Taco Bell. But my cousin used to work there and he said it isn't bad money — if you're 16. Plus, who doesn't like free Gorditas?

Above average intelligence never hurts. How would you know? Think back to grade school—ever been in a gifted and talented program? No? Well ... this is awkward ....

  • And it'd be nice if you were an M.B.A. student. It really helps the non-M.B.A. account managers and directors with their ego issues.
  • You'll also need an idea of what you want to learn … or not. Maybe you want to be a jack-of-all-trades and master-of-none. Who are we to judge? Speaking of judging, one final caveat: you need to be photogenic. Take that how you will, we're just putting it out there. Still interested? Send an email compiling your education, work history and personal information (some would call that a résumé, but such proletarian thinking is snuffed out with haste around here) to careers@starrtincup.com. If it doesn't suck completely we'll be in touch.

Yes, They Really Said These Things.

These are the honest-to-God words of actual Starr Tincup interns – at least the ones who are still talking to us.

When I had my interview with Starr Tincup I was a bit overwhelmed at first. I was expecting to walk into the office and everyone would be wearing a suit and ties, but it was the complete opposite. Immediately I knew that this was a company I would be able to enjoy and have a great learning experience with. This isn't your typical internship either; you're not just the coffee girl but an actual contributor in making this company as successful as it is. I was able to write press releases, micro campaigns, and work with B2B marketing. The best thing I got out of this internship, though, was working with our bosses. William, Mark and Wes are all are great mentors. They are always willing to teach you about marketing, but also to listen to you. It is awesome to know that you can approach your boss and not be scared of them. The employees who work here are the reason why Starr Tincup is as successful as it is. If you enjoy being around quirky, nerdy yet funny South Park fanatics, then you will definitely enjoy working here. An easy motto for Starr Tincup is expect the unexpected.

I found out about this internship from one of my roommates who also interned here and loved it. After interviewing with William and Mark, I knew I had to come here, even though I knew nothing about B2B marketing (seriously, google them before you interview). It seemed like such a crazy environment and I knew that I was in way over my head, but I couldn't miss out. I walked in the first day completely freaked out with no idea what to do. But Mark and Wes got me started on some awesome projects, like writing press releases and emails and profiling companies. Yeah, some of it is hard and you'll have to redo stuff, but you'll learn a lot and play just as much. You'll also meet a bunch of honest people who really want to see you do well - in your career and in your life. It's an amazing, badass internship and you'd better take advantage of it, or you'll regret it. A word of warning, though: watch out for Jason and his off-color commentary. If your desk is in front of his, have some witty retorts ready because you’ll be a frequent target.

From Office Olympics to an extreme weight loss health initiative, working at Starr Tincup is not like any other internship. Interns get a wide range of opportunities to gain experience as well as the ability to take advantage of a particular area of interest. In other words, interns are not making copies and getting the coffee. You not only learn the business, but you learn life lessons. The work experience is meaningful, but it is the extra benefits that really make the experience. With William, Mark, and Wes leading the intern team, they become mentors rather than bosses. With them, you are getting marketing experience and promoting the kick-ass ST culture. You get to know the business on a personal level, and you are treated as a person, not just an intern. Interns build relationships with each other and the rest of the office. The culture is unlike any other. Besides, where else can you say that you took a break to play ping pong and then met at the company beer fridge at the end of the day? At Starr Tincup, you not only learn and gain experience, but you build meaningful relationships and have fun. The people of Starr Tincup love their jobs and it makes all the difference.

Talk about spoiled! Working at Starr Tincup is my first internship ever. Definitely not my first job though; more like seventh with the career of being a waitress behind me. This internship has spoiled me for my next employment adventure. The people here are the type of people who you actually want to hang out with on a daily basis. Don't let their humor deceive you; they are some of the most intelligent, talented and friendly people I have ever met - let alone worked with. I have learned a lot about social media in the short months I have been working here. I find myself reading blogs on my days off! I work directly with William Tincup and love it. It feels good to have a boss who remembers what it is to be in your 20s and confused about where to go and what to do next in life. I'm grateful for the skills I have acquired and the great advice I have been given. The honesty and no BS approach are commendable to say the least. Thanks again, ST!

As an English major, I really didn't expect my resume to be taken seriously when I applied, but William emailed me back to set up an interview. If you're on the fence about applying to be an intern because you think you lack some sort of necessary skill, apply anyway. Your first week as an intern at Starr Tincup is going to be overwhelming. Get over that. If you spend your entire internship with Starr Tincup feeling like you don't know what's going on, you're going to waste valuable time. You'll be learning about marketing in a real-world setting, Starr Tincup style. Get to know everyone in the office and get advice from whomever's in a position you aspire to attain.

After I interviewed at Starr Tincup, I thought, "Shit, they are hardcore." I was psyched when I got the internship because I knew it wouldn't be a traditional internship. I was intimidated with how many hours I would be working especially with classes and my paying job. Yes, it is an unpaid internship, but the experiences and dirty jokes you learn make it well worth it. William and Mark respect the interns and treat them as equals. There are a lot of fun times but you also have to put in a lot of hard work. You are expected to learn the badassness that is Starr Tincup and then apply it to everything that you do. I couldn't have had a better experience.

I am an unconventional person who was looking for an unconventional internship and thankfully that is exactly what I got. Working at Starr Tincup has definitely changed my perception on a lot of things. It showed me how a great marketing firm is run and what I personally need to do to become more prepared for life in the "Real World." I started off at Starr Tincup not having any agency experience, but thankfully they let you get comfortable and acclimated to the agency environment. Everyone here is really nice, too. They are always ready to help you out, whether it is to get you set up to find a job or the project you're currently working on. I really can't imagine an experience like the one at Starr Tincup. If you are debating whether or not to do this, just do it. You can thank me later.

I had to take an extra 3 hours in school in order to still graduate in May when I found out my internship with ST was being denied for credit. Turns out UTA doesn't approve of the website. Hmm... I guess I can kind of see that. However, all the reasons UTA feels ST is not appropriate are all the reasons this company is everything I hoped it would be and more. I made a lot of new friends, starved myself like an Ethiopian to win $1000, got to compete for prizes in the Office Olympics, and brushed up on my ping pong skills. And did I mention the experience I gained? Not to mention how incredibly helpful William and Bret are, with everything from work you're doing for them to your job search. Needless to say, one day at Starr Tincup is never like the next. You'll spend about as much time on the floor laughing as you do at your desk. Come prepared for something wild, crazy and completely out of the ordinary every day. Given the opportunity, with or without credit, I would do it all over again.

I was so intimidated when I walked into my interview with Starr Tincup. I had no idea what to expect. You could tell the people at ST loved to have fun, but were still very serious about work. That is something you don't come across very often in the work place. However, I overcame my fears very quickly. As long as you take the initiative to get to know the people in the office and show interest, they will be more than happy to help you out. One of the coolest things about this internship is that William actually cares about his interns. William makes sure that you get as much as you can out of your internship. He does not sit there and tell you what to do all day. Duh, he is a busy guy. Instead, he lets you figure things out on your own, so that it makes sense to you. You can't be told what you need to know for your future career; you must find out on your own based on what works best for you. William gives you the opportunity to learn and grow but makes sure that you still have fun along the way.

So you are reading all these testimonials thinking this place looks crazy, cool and fantastic! Well guess what you are right! When I found and looked up our website my first thought was crap this sounds intense, but very interesting. I have been that intern who makes thousands of copies a day, and let me tell you it's no fun and you don't learn jack squat! As soon as I walked into the office and interviewed with William I knew I wanted this job. It was calling out to me like a fog horn. Then William said I think you would be good in Social Media. Turns out this thing called social media is huge right now and is only getting bigger and I have found myself engaged in a world that is creating major changes in the way companies and people market themselves. In a world where companies fear social media, Starr Tincup dives into it head on. The whole Starr Tincup team are one-of-kind and just down to earth cool people. Trust me when I say you will love it here. I am very grateful to William for taking a chance on me and this internship has truly allowed me to learn things about myself and my field that I would have never experienced otherwise.

When I first interviewed at Starr Tincup with William back in March, I knew right away that I wanted to be a part of this fantastic team. William stressed the importance of “fit” and how he wouldn’t hire an intern that wouldn’t fit in at the office. Naturally, I was dying to fit in, just like back in 7th grade. William decided to take a chance on me, and I will always be incredibly grateful to him for giving me this awesome opportunity. Now, I’m not gonna lie…this internship is far from the traditionally mundane in countless ways. Not many interns that I know come home and reflect on their days filled with dirty and inappropriate marketing campaigns, ping pong rallies and gladiator street craps in the back alley…alright, I don’t actually know ANY interns that do this. But the folks at Starr Tincup are not just about being completely over the top and pushing the boundaries of marketing (although this concept is deliciously fun). The people here are so badass and so into what they do, it’s unreal. These guys really are the experts, and I’m lucky to have the chance to hang out with them all day. What’s even better is they were always interested in my future and helping me reach my goals whenever they could. I’ll admit, there were times that I felt frustrated and just wanted to grab a handle of Jack and call it quits. However, I don’t think this internship would have been worth it in the end if I didn’t feel so frustrated. At least I’ve learned a lot. The bottom line: the office is cool. The people are cooler. And the best part is, I’m finishing off my 3 month internship with some unique, killer experiences that have absolutely nothing to do with being traditional and normal…however, they might have had something to do with alcoholism…

I’m not gonna lie – a lot of my friends thought I had completely lost my mind when I accepted an internship at Starr Tincup; after all, I enthusiastically committed myself to a summer of 40+ unpaid hour weeks (not to mention my hour-plus commute each way).  Then again, William definitely cut me a break, offering me an internship when I had little experience and was only a rising junior (trust me, my spot could have been easily filled).  Needless to say, the intangible benefits and experiences I am leaving with more then outweigh the meager sacrifices I made to intern at ST.  As an intern, you’ll hit the ground running from day one: be prepared to legitimately contribute to Starr Tincup in big ways, think outside the box & do some completely ridiculous things along the way.  This summer I was able to hone my writing skills by creating content for many press releases, e-mail campaigns, and microsites.  I also got the incredible opportunity to contribute to Starr Tincup’s rebranding efforts, creating a campaign which promoted the launch of their new website.  As for my ridiculous comment…all I can say is I have helped design over 100 hangover kits, created a street craps table for a photo shoot & test rode electric bikes. At Starr Tincup everyone, from the account managers to the partners, is incredibly invested in your growth; the firm is truly comprised of brilliant individuals who are passionate about marketing – and LOVE what they do. I can’t imagine a better place which I could have vested my time the past three months.

From the time I interviewed at Starr Tincup I knew that this was the place I really wanted to do my internship. I was so excited when they offered me the position but I was also really nervous about it. I honestly had no idea what to expect. I quickly got over those nerves when I arrived on my first day and saw how laid back and fun everyone in the office is. Throughout the internship I learned so much about B2B marketing and got to take part in some cool promotions for the company. I did a lot of writing, made some funny videos (you should watch them, they’re awesome), made fake graffiti for a photoshoot, and met tons of great people. Unlike other internships, the interns here aren’t just shoved in the corner, we actually got to take part in a lot of things around the office and William really cares about our progress and our future. Working at Starr Tincup has been such an invaluable experience and has really helped me discover what I want to do with my career. And besides, what other internship lets you play ping pong whenever you want?

I knew I wanted to intern at Starr Tincup because I had heard great things from former interns. After meeting William and learning a little bit about Starr Tincup, I was offered an internship. I had no idea what to expect, the only thing I knew was that I was going to learn – a LOT. Although I helped accomplish some pretty big projects for Starr Tincup (an entire website launch), Starr Tincup helped me in more ways than I could ever contribute to their business. I learned so much about marketing expertise (because the people who work here actually are experts) and had a ton of fun doing it. Everyone here loves their job and it shows. It makes coming to work fun because there are always good vibes in the office that make you want to work hard. I’m also really lucky to have had a boss like William who gives great life and career advice and truly cares about my future. Interning at Starr Tincup has been one of the highlights of my college career and I will benefit from my experience throughout my professional life.

My internship at Starr Tincup was way more than I ever expected. First of all, I was freaked out half way through May because I couldn’t find an HR summer internship. I randomly reached out to Starr Tincup, and they totally took a chance on me as their first HR/Recruiting intern! What I really loved about interning at Starr Tincup was the actual teaching Lalli did. I wasn’t there to just do her extra busy work…of course I helped out, but her main focus was to help me actually learn the business and to help me build networks that I could use later in order to succeed. She figured out what I wanted to learn and then we went over it. What other internship program cares that much? If you want to work with great people who actually want you to leave more prepared than when you arrive, then reach out to Starr Tincup! Oh, and by the way, bring a jacket. If you don’t, you will freeze…just a tip.

While researching for summer internship opportunities, I stumbled across Starr Tincup’s site and realized it was unlike any other firm out there. Seriously…I don’t think I will ever see a portrait of any other CEO dressed down in a work shirt and trucker hat, cigar-in-hand. So, these guys are different and take risks; that’s what I was looking for. After meeting a couple times with William, who BTW is the most down-to-earth boss you will probably ever have, he decided to take a chance on me and I was hired as his social media intern. And boy, am I glad he did. This has been one of the best decisions I have, or will, make in my life time. William actually cares that you learn and grow – I will never forget what he told me when I interviewed for the position: “We want you to give value to the company and we want to give value to you.” It’s true, dudes. As an intern, you WILL work your ass off. At the end of the day you will be exhausted. Your eyes will be dried out from staring at a computer screen for hours. And you will still be broke. But it’s all totally worth it. This is an experience that will benefit you for the rest of your professional career. The guys at Starr Tincup know the business and are always willing to teach you more. Plus, you’ll be able to make all your friends super jealous.

When I sent my resume for an intern position at Starr Tincup I was fully expecting it to be shredded. They did not seem to care about my complete lack of business classes and gave me an interview. After meeting the Tincup gang I was offered an internship position and I was slightly shocked and scared for my life. I knew nothing about B2B marketing, human capital or anything of the sort (thank God for Google). Every day at Starr Tincup was challenging, bizarre, and most importantly a rewarding experience. While working at Starr Tincup I learned about marketing (maybe more than I expected or wanted to learn) and so much more. If you want an internship where you will be doing mind-numbing errands, then this isn’t the place for you. If you are looking to step outside your comfort zone and be challenged then Starr Tincup may be what you are looking for. Be prepared for it is not your “normal” office environment, but you will learn so much more than you could have imagined in no time.

My internship at Starr Tincup was definitely not what I was expecting. They dressed me up as a pickle, made me serve brownies, cut individual blades of grass and smuggle my food into the office. All of that actually happened… There are videos. Seriously though, I had a great time here because the people love what they do and it shows. I also got the opportunity to do things that most other interns don’t get to do. I helped create marketing campaigns for Starr Tincup to bring in new clients and I also helped with the launch of their new website. None of that typical boring intern stuff I hear my friends talking about. William even took the time to sit down and go through our resumes and show us what we could improve upon. I’m so glad that I was given the opportunity to work and learn from these crazy and wicked smart people. If you’re looking for an exciting company that’ll keep you on your toes and teach you loads about B2B marketing, Starr Tincup is definitely the place for you.

I heard about Starr Tincup through my very best friend in the whole world, Michaela who happened to be lucky enough to have the opportunity to intern with the company. She warned me in advance that William might not look like your typical businessman, but he sure knows what he is talking about. After my first conversation with William, I could tell that Starr Tincup was the most legit place I could possible be. Not only is everyone there freaking ridiculously good at what they do, they are also they most down-to-earth and honest group of people I've ever met. From the minute I stepped foot in the door, they took a vested interest in me. I was never treated like an intern (and I'm talking from experience) because I have been the "errand runner" before! William wanted us to learn the ropes and were concerned about actively seeking out possible opportunity for me in the future. This means a lot, because Michaela and I were recently college grads dealing with an economy that was not so ideal. I have missed Starr Tincup from the day I left and my experience there was unlike any other!

As the end of college was drawing near I knew two things: 1) I wanted to find a job in the marketing/PR realm and 2) I wanted to move to Texas. So, when William offered me the internship at Starr Tincup, I was overjoyed that I had pretty much fulfilled my two little goals. Little did I know that the following three months of work would be one of the best experiences of my life. Not only did I learn OODLES (yes oodles) about successful marketing, but I also received incredible career and life advice from William and the rest of the Starr Tincup team. Never once did I dread going to work at Starr Tincup. Each day was different from the last and when they said "There are no stupid questions" they actually meant it. That's probably why I learned so much. But, regardless of the experience and knowledge that I gained, it's the amazing people at Starr Tincup that still make me miss my internship every day.

Michaela Webb

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably read the intern position posting and taken a look at the site. (Don’t come to the interview if you haven’t taken a look at their site. Seriously.) You’re probably feeling a little intimidated. Seems intense, right? Well, the truth about an internship at Starr Tincup is it is intense, and you’re going to have to work hard and going to have new and confusing things thrown at you. But, you’re going to learn a lot and get a lot of help while you’re doing it. You’ll get to work on things that are important and challenging, and they’ll even help you get your resume into shape (after telling you that it sucks, of course). It’s a great opportunity, and you’ll definitely regret it if you don’t do it.

Sarah Staley
University of North Texas, B.A.

Interning at Starr Tincup has been unlike any other position I’ve taken with a company. Working here has taught me more about myself personally and professionally than I thought possible. You gain real-world experience from top-notch people who are willing to teach. If you fail at a project, and face it you will, don’t be alarmed when they tell you it sucked and try again. I’ve learned more about b2b marketing and social media than I would have in a classroom. Starr Tincup is an amazing start to build real work experience and they’re willing to help. Don’t pass up on a great opportunity. Oh and be prepared to either kick ass at ping-pong and/or kickball or go home – I’ll meet you on the field.

If you begin at Starr Tincup and within the first two weeks you are considering leaving because of heavy school and work load, THINK TWICE! DON'T DO IT. If you don't give up, you'll see that the challenging experience here is a big step to your next internship or full-time position. I almost left during the second week, but I'll always thank my ST mentors for challenging me to stay longer...I realized that the longer I stayed and balanced all my responsibilities, the easier life was for me and the more beneficial my internship became. In short, Starr Tincup was the Godsend difference between Lydia, the novice intern and Lydia, the analytical, SEO/SEM angel about to bless her clients' online marketing campaigns!

Lydia Akinde
Texas Christian University, M.S., B.S.

Any new job is intimidating, but everyone at Starr Tincup really takes pride in his or her ability to just completely shake you up. My interview lasted three and a half hours and I have never been grilled so thoroughly. During my time at Starr Tincup I was told I wasn't as boring as I looked and that I might even be some kind of irregular shape (as opposed to a square). I got asked quite frequently to edit things and to keep in mind that he who wrote the piece in question may or may not have been in a coherent state of mind at the time the piece was compiled. Who wants to edit something that makes perfect sense though, right? If there is any advice I could give to future interns, it's to ask for Kevin. Not only will you get to take the reigns on email campaigns and the like, you will spend a significant amount of time talking about his dreams of training Diesel (who is not a Weimaraner, ok?) to get him a beer and looking for inappropriate pictures on stock photo sights. This is the real world- ping pong is a legitimate work activity. Don't forget your glasses either, there is no sympathy.

I decided to do the internship at Starr Tincup to get real hands-on experience in b2b marketing. What a better way to actually see those MBA theories in practice - and I got a lot more than I planned to receive. The first day was a blur - you become dizzy watching the account reps juggle client calls and creating strategies in the free 15 minutes they have before another client call. And account support was even faster in responding to client needs. I learned a lot about marketing in the business realm, as well as about taking initiative and the need to constantly learn in order to survive in marketing. Overall, they taught me to never be afraid to try something new. After all, that's how great marketing is done.

True story... The fall after my internship at Starr Tincup, I decided to try my luck at the Baylor Career Fair. I did the regular song and dance of introducing myself and handing my resume to the first free set of hands. The recruiter was acting less than interested when he suddenly noticed that I had Starr Tincup listed under my previous work experiences. He immediately underlined Starr Tincup's name, put two stars at the top of the paper, and became VERY interested in talking to me! The moral of the story is; interning at Starr Tincup not only gave me an invaluable experience in a dynamic environment, but it also helped create opportunities that would not have been available otherwise. I can now say from personal experience that an internship here WILL make your resume 150% better than it was before you came. ...plus the office chairs are really REALLY comfortable.

On my first day at Starr Tincup, I was so nervous: nervous about doing something wrong and nervous about not knowing how to do something (Ok lets me honest, how to do anything). I quickly learned that the people at Starr Tincup want you to feel that way because it keeps you from doing something wrong and they will teach what you need to know. I learned so much at Starr Tincup and not just how to write a white paper or even what a white paper is, but also how a marketing firm is run and how people work and interact within one (unfortunately not all firms have ping-pong tables and principals who wear swim trunks to work). My experience at Starr Tincup gave me the ability to walk into my next semester and internship with the confidence and knowledge to know how to get things done right and to always keep asking for more. Your experience at Starr Tincup will definitely be what you want it to be: if you want learn more about anything you have questions about or are unsure of, just ask to sit in on that conference call or concept meeting, everyone at Starr Tincup wants you to learn and experience as much as you can.

I had a truly unique experience at Starr Tincup. It was educational, exciting and just down right fun. I mean who wouldn't want to work at a place where they pride themselves on keeping a fully stocked beer fridge? For me, the people made the experience. My mentor was nothing short of amazing. He allowed me to fully immerse myself in his work and gave me the responsibility an opportunity to do "real world" work for our clients. I was able to step outside of the classroom and build off my previous knowledge to work on an array of marketing task. This internship was nothing I expected - that's what I loved most about it.

Ashley Carter
Texas A&M University, B.B.A.

Working at Starr Tincup is almost like an out of body experience. You kind of understand what's going on around you, but you just can't quite put your finger on what exactly is transpiring. I learned a lot about the marketing world and a lot about myself while I was at Starr Tincup. When I first saw the job description for an intern, I was intimidated--I wasn't really sure I had the balls to work in such a crazy, intense, and sometimes even psychotic environment. But I did, I made it, I survived. I speak the truth when I say I am ten times the better person after spending my summer in Ft. Worth. Working at Starr Tincup changed the way I view business, marketing, interacting with clients, and it opened my eyes to a part of "the real world" I didn't even know existed. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity I was given to work at Starr Tincup.

Janelle Briggs

One of the main reasons I even got an interview at Starr Tincup is because I threatened to beat the entire office in ping pong. When I started my internship, I began to realize this was not just a light-hearted game. No, it was an intense, competitive sport taken very seriously. I think that's what I've enjoyed most about my time here. Starr Tincup knows how to work incredibly hard and play incredibly hard. I've learned so much about marketing during my short stay and had a great mentor to guide me. This isn't your regular run get coffee internship. It's a place to gain real experience in a great atmosphere with wonderful people.

Katie Pool
Texas Christian University, B.S.

I sent my resume to Starr Tincup on a whim--and honestly, it was the best thing I ever decided to not give up on. I hope they feel the same as they accepted my position to be an intern, after they had closed the positions to everyone else. Call it lucky. I call the experience valuable. I know I was supposed to work at Starr Tincup for those twelve weeks because I can truly say everything I learned--business and personal--was extremely valuable to the experiences I will continue to have throughout any business venture I will enter into. I can honestly say I'm a hard worker--and I've never worked as hard as I did at Starr Tincup. And it was all worth it. I learned more about marketing and an industry that was previously foreign to me in 12 weeks than I could've ever imagined. Starr Tincup gave me the experience and knowledge I need to go onto the next level of my education and future internships that others won't have.

Kalyn Baldwin
Texas Christian University, B.S.

Starr Tincup is nothing like a normal internship. You're not hidden away in a cubicle somewhere so that the other employees can forget about you. Instead, you are expected to actually do work and to interact with co-workers on a regular basis. Not just any co-workers, but a crazy clan of mentors who are anxious to teach - and to work you harder than you have ever worked before. In fact, many of friends who had fancy, high-paying internships at large companies were jealous of what I had at Starr Tincup. The people just couldn't compare. I came into Starr Tincup with no knowledge of marketing, but left with a thick portfolio and the confidence to take on any marketing writing job.

It's fun getting a peek at something you may do for the rest of your life. And everyone wonders if they will really LIKE their job when they get their degree. This internship gave me confidence that I made the right choice in my decision to go into Advertising / Marketing. This firm is about putting out a good product and letting it speak for itself. I learned to take every problem in stride, teamwork is essential, and enjoying your job is directly correlated to your performance.

An internship at Starr Tincup will give you a lot of stories. Some of these stories will help you in future interviews and some of these stories will have you wondering how you didn’t get arrested. It’s an amazing place to learn from the best. If you walk away from an internship like this thinking it sucked then chances are you actually suck.

I have a lot of friends who always dread going in to work for all kinds of reasons, and I can’t say I haven’t had past jobs that I complained about on a regular basis as well—but this was definitely not the case with my internship at Starr Tincup. I looked forward to my time here. There is always something new to learn and super exciting things going on. Overall, it’s a great atmosphere and the perfect place to gain real world experience from real, down-to-earth people. And when William whips out the Patron…be very afraid…

Expect the unexpected! Abraham Lincoln once said, “I will study and get ready and someday my chance will come.” Interning at Starr Tincup helped me learn a lot. I was well over my head the first day and I just knew it was going to be a long 3 months. Now it’s April and my time has come to an end. I never realized how important the tedious things were until working here. While interning I was also working two jobs since this one was not paying me. Not only am I getting a great resume builder, but an experience that none but the best had created. I believe that I was given the greatest mentor. I have learned many of things from him but most importantly hard work and dedication. Thank you everyone for the time a paid professor would have never taught me. I am now ready for my chance to come.

I'm really glad I work at Starr Tincup now because I would have been miserable working somewhere else after having been an intern here. Where else can you learn from the best, improve your gambling skills and sing with mariachis? There's nothing else like it—only here are true Olympians made.

If you don't ask for what you want at Starr Tincup, you won't have a successful internship. Many people believe an internship is an experience where you go into a company, wear your nice clothes and do what you're told—by and by—never knowing the strategy, never ruffling any feathers and never, under any circumstances, opening your mouth to the boss. Not true at Starr Tincup. If you don't ask to be in that client meeting, or ask to work on that project, or ask to learn something new, or challenge the boss' strategy for making a decision you lose out. Your internship at Starr Tincup is what you make it; and if you don't ask for what you want or challenge anyone then you won't have a successful outcome to your internship. Be bold, challenge someone, ask to be stretched further than you can stretch. After all, it's your internship, not ours.

I have had two marketing internships and I gained the best preparation for “the real world” during the one at Starr Tincup. I learned a TON in three months, and no matter how many classes I signed up for, or how much tuition I paid I would never have been able to get the experience I had here in any classroom. As a career changer this internship proved especially valuable in that previously I had no experience in the field I had been studying to work in.

The projects you get are real. Meaning your ass is really on the line. You are in front of clients, not behind the scenes. So don't think you can play dumb as "the intern." It's very hard, but even more rewarding. My advice would be to shine your shoes, press your pants and roll up your sleeves. Your brain is going to hurt. Be brilliant. And don't forget to breathe.

My brother once got hired by a company that really excited him because it said that its hiring policy was "no assholes or idiots." Turns out they hired both assholes and idiots, but it has always struck me that that should be every company's hiring policy. I think it holds true with Starr Tincup. They appreciate inherent smarts and competency, and will reward you for it, regardless of age, experience or pedigree. My work with them was my first office job, and it gave me both the résumé stuffing and real-world experience I needed to get my career going.

My experience at Starr Tincup can be summed up in about three words: terrifying, challenging and awesome! I say it was terrifying because I had never taken a marketing course in my life and everything was completely new to me. I was nervous/scared shitless each day because I had no clue what I would be doing or learning. But I am thankful for the fear and the challenging tasks because I know I would not have grown as much had it been just another easy summer job. I am also thankful for the fantastic people at Starr Tincup who motivated me and were always there to help when I had no clue what my account manager was talking about (thanks Anna). I will always remember my summer at Starr Tincup.

Of ALL my internships (grand total of two!) my favorite was definitely the one at Starr Tincup. I was an intern for a whole month; I was hired pretty quickly when they realized that I wasn't lying when I said I learned fast. Working with two unorganized people in the firm (Bret & Mark, you know it's true) was interesting and entertaining, I discovered that learning to read minds is an extremely valuable skill. The value I got from my internship at Starr Tincup was largely due to the people, it's a place where everyone is willing to help you when you need it and pass on their knowledge.

When I wasn't getting hit in the face with Nerf® balls, I actually learned what a B2B marketing firm can do for the HR industry. In the meantime, I got to hang out with some of the most amusing people in the world.

Have you ever walked away from your desk to get a Laffy Taffy® and returned to find a horrendous pig statue in an oversized party hat staring at you, his sad little eyes causing you to run away shrieking? That's what it's like working at Starr Tincup. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started my internship. Now I don't know where else I would go. My internship (and now my job) was crazy; I did different things every day and it was never boring. I was fresh out of college and thought because I had a degree that I knew what marketing meant; boy was I wrong. I learned as much in the three months of my internship as I did during my whole undergraduate career.

It's definitely not your average business environment. I felt like a fish out of water with my business attire on during my interview, but that was one of the best parts of Starr Tincup. Everyone is really easing going and really good at what they do. The entire office is willing to help if you don't understand something, which will happen, and they're very easy to joke around with. You learn a lot, you play a lot, and you do a bunch of cool stuff.

There is no traditional "down-time" at Starr Tincup. As an intern, you are either running from client conference calls or planning the next email campaign. If you are not doing either, you are trying to figure out who you play next in the intense ping-pong tournament. The work environment at Starr Tincup is both challenging and entertaining. I have received real-world experience that I know I would never have received anywhere else. I have never had this much fun being challenged and learning so much about both marketing and technology. I am very thankful that I had an opportunity to work in an environment that makes learning so much fun and rewarding. The people here make this experience meaningful; be willing to learn and ask millions of questions.

Summing up my experience at Starr Tincup into a few words would be impossible. I was very wary about taking an internship that wasn't paid, especially considering my financial position at the time of my job search. To be honest, the whole purpose of me beginning the application process was to make some extra money to subsist through the semester. I received a marketing position for a smaller company owned by one of my professors as a direct result of the experience that I got through Starr Tincup. This position was not only paid, but it also counted for upper level credit hours in the business school. The team at Starr Tincup exemplifies a progressive, forward thinking firm that uses a creative, be it odd, method to come up with new ideas to change the face of marketing. Their thought process breaks the cast of traditional marketing and transcends to a new level. I would highly recommend Starr Tincup as a firm to anyone looking for a marketing position. The experience and knowledge to be gained working with Starr Tincup can not be quantified and adds value where ever one goes.
